NORTH MUSKOKA
There is no doubt that Muskoka’s fall foliage brings numerous visitors to the area. North Muskoka has two prime lookout areas for a great vantage point: the Lion’s Lookout in Huntsville and Dorset’s Fire Tower which offers an incomparable bird’s-eye view. It is a superb season for hiking and picnicking. Both trail and road cycling are highly popular in the fall, and rentals can be booked ahead. The annual Muskoka Art Studio Tour, Canada’s first art studio tour, is held the last weekend in September and first weekend in October, featuring the work and techniques of the area’s finest artists.
SOUTH MUSKOKA
Gravenhurst’s steamship cruises offer a wonderful view of the fall colours, sailing until mid-October, with a special cruise at Thanksgiving. Cycling, hiking, and paddling are readily accessible throughout the area, with rentals available. It’s harvest time at Johnston’s Cranberry Marsh in Bala, where you can also tour their Muskoka Lakes Winery. And Rich Hill Candles factory has a special Thanksgiving sale, with great deals as well as a tour of their facility. In addition to the Muskoka Art Studio Tour, October is the month for Bracebridge’s annual Muskoka Mud Run race and the Great Muskoka Paddling Race, plus Bala’s renowned Cranberry Festival.
