TLDSB Holds 2nd Annual LGBTQ Conference

4/25/2013

Congratulations to the Trillium Lakelands District School Board on holding its second annual LGBTQ conference.  The conference was well-attended, by Board staff and over 85 high school students involved in the Gay-Straight Alliances at the 7 high schools.

Guest speakers included: artist Spencer Harrison, musician Kate Reid, drag bingo with Miss DivaLicious and Ms. Madge Enthat. Several TLDSB trustees were in attendance, as was Director of Education Larry Hope.

Superintendent Shelly Woon, in her opening remarks, looks forward to the day when an LGBTQ conference is no longer necessary and when all students feel safe to be who they are. In the meantime, the TLDSB is working hard to create a more inclusive and safe learning environment.

A special video was shown, in which comedian Rick Mercer welcomed the students to the conference, and reminded them that "it gets better."
